About Us

The Howsam family have been in business at the mill in Old Leake Commonside for 150 years. 

Howsam’s Mill is Grade 2 listed and originally produced flour to be used in the onsite bakery. 

Over the generations the business changed and developed. Today G Howsam & Son Ltd are an agricultural merchanting business operating a commercial grain store and trading fertiliser and seed corn to farmers.  We also have a retail shop supplying bird, dog, cat and animal food. The business is currently owned and run by Alan and Janis Howsam together with their son David who is the 5th generation of the Howsam family at the mill.

Tracey Howsam is a Primary School teacher, with over 25 years of experience of working with children and is a qualified Forest School Teacher.

Starting with an empty grass field, together, David and Tracey have created Miller’s Wood Play Village. A place where children can explore and play in carefully designed role play areas within in an outdoor environment. 

Also, as parents ourselves we know how important it is to be able to relax with a good cup of coffee and a sweet treat.
